Trump greets Saudi prince at G20 summit

Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist working for The Washington Post, was killed shortly after he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

However, some of the most interesting interactions are happening on the summit's sidelines, amid stand-offs over the US-China trade row, Russia's conflict with Ukraine and Saudi Arabia's involvement in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

During the meeting, the two leaders also discussed investment in solar energy through the Soft Bank Vision Fund and through the Saudi companies which will build solar energy projects.

Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, quickly exited the stage without shaking hands or talking with other leaders.

Some have noticed Trump seems to be keeping his distance from the two leaders so far, but he will reportedly have a impromptu meeting with Putin at some point before the summit is finished.

Trump is one of the only USA officials who has refused to criticize the Saudi crown prince and the Russian president for violating human rights and attacking their neighbors.

An expected high-profile bilateral meeting between US President Donald Trump and Putin planned for Saturday was abruptly cancelled by Trump in a tweet citing Russia's seizure of Ukrainian vessels over the weekend.

French President Emmanuel Macron has also said he will meet with the Saudi leader.

Missing entirely was Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose arrival was delayed for the better part of a day by a serious technical failure on her plane, which forced her to return to Germany Thursday night.
