Ivanka Trump defends use of private email in White House

Ivanka Trump has denied comparisons with Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email account for government business.

President Donald Trump's daughter and senior adviser Ivanka Trump defended her use of a private email account saying it has "no equivalency" to former Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's email scandal.

"All of my emails that relate to any form of government work - which was mainly scheduling and logistics and managing the fact that I have a home life and a work life - are all part of the public record".

Ivanka Trump says her private account emails were archived and contained no classified information.

The White House told an Idaho newspaper its reporter could cover first daughter Ivanka Trump's visit to a local school - but could not ask her any questions. 'There's no equivalency to what my father's spoken about'.

'All of my emails are stored and preserved.

During his 2016 campaign, Mr Trump suggested the former secretary of state should be jailed after it emerged the Federal Bureau of Investigation had found classified information in some emails from her private server.

Use of a personal account for government business potentially violates a law requiring preservation of all presidential records.

Mr Trump harshly criticised Mrs Clinton, his 2016 Democratic presidential rival, for her use of the private email server. No comment from the White House.

Other government officials, including Vice President Mike Pence when he was Indiana's governor and several past secretaries of state, have also been found to have used private email for government work.

But in the face of "heartbreaking" images of Central American migrants desperately trying to cross the U.S. -Mexico border amid a hail of tear-gas canisters, she said she's standing behind her dad. She would very much not like to be seen as a person who tear-gasses children, even though her participation in an administration that tear-gasses children is complicity in the tear-gassing of children.

Trump said the investigation should be allowed to run its course, but echoed her father's view that it has gone on long enough.

"I know the facts as they relate to me and my family, and so I have nothing to be concerned about".

The Republican chairmen of Senate and House oversight committees - as well as a top House Democrat who will be wielding a gavel when his party takes power in January - have called on the White House to provide more information about the email account and the nature of her messages.
