Mack Brown Hired As UNC's Next Football Coach

Brown agreed to terms to become the next head coach at North Carolina, a source told ESPN on Monday night, but his return was pending approval by the university's board.

Brown would replace Larry Fedora, who was sacked after seven seasons and a 45-43 record, including a 2-9 mark this season. Brown, who signed a five-year deal that will pay him $3.5 million annually, replaces Larry Fedora, who was sacked Sunday after seven seasons. From 1988 to 1997, Brown led the Tar Heels to a record of 69-46-1.

Once at Texas, Brown coached a Heisman Trophy victor in Ricky Williams, then another Heisman finalist - Vince Young - led the Longhorns to a 13-0 season in 2005 that ended with a win against USC in a Rose Bowl classic for the national title.
