President Macron said in an interview earlier this week that Europe needs to protect itself against "China, Russia and even the United States" in terms of cyberspace.

"What is really important, if we look at the developments of the past year, is that we have to work on a vision of one day creating a real, true European army", Merkel told a session of European Parliament, drawing applause and some boos.

During that press conference, Trump said he saw no reason to believe Russian Federation had interfered in the 2016 U.S. election, but was later forced to walk back the remarks. "Pay for North Atlantic Treaty Organisation or not!" tweeted the president, who returned from a trip to France on Sunday. Trump wrote in his Twitter.

The president also criticized a number of issues facing France and the United States, including wine tariffs and military spending. Washington contributed more than one-third of the total funding to the 29-member alliance in 2017.

In early November, Macron called for the establishment of an European Union army that would be independent of the United States.

Considering that nationalism and patriotism are synonyms in the English language, Macron's comments were an obvious jab at the American president who recently called himself a nationalist.

Trump and Macron's relationship began as a trans-Atlantic "bromance" but as sourced as Macron seeks to make up ground within his own group of European leaders. "I'm for us. And you know what? But we have to help ourselves as well".

But there is also little doubt Alabama would be favored on a neutral field against any team in the country. MI remained at No. 4 in the College Football Playoff Rankings after defeating Rutgers 42-7.

'The problem is that Emmanuel has a very low rate of approval in France, 26 per cent, and an unemployment rate of nearly 10 per cent. By comparison, USA defense spending is at 3.1 percent of its world-leading $19.4-trillion economy. Trump's weekly average approval rating from November 5 to 11 sat at 38 percent, with a term average of 39 percent, according to Gallup.

"By the way, there is no country more Nationalist than France, very proud people-and rightfully so!" he added.

Trump's claim that Macron wants to defend Europe "against the U.S." was based on a faulty translation.

The US leader was to join Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan and almost 70 other world leaders yesterday evening at a dinner at the Orsay Museum ahead of today's solemn commemorations at the Arc de Triomphe under which lies the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Mr Trump laid into Mr Macron on Tuesday over his suggestion for a European defence force, French tariffs on USA wine and even Mr Macron's approval ratings. "Not fair, must change!"

The European Union levies tariffs ranging from $0.11 to $0.29 a bottle on wine that is imported from the United States, while bottles exported from the EU to the USA are hit with a tax of $0.05 a bottle, the Wine Institute says.

He said the country charged "big tariffs" compared with the "very small tariffs" the U.S. placed on French wine.
