Stan Lee dies at 95

The 95-year-old comic book legend - who is known for creating or co-creating numerous most famous Marvel superheroes - passed away in hospital on Monday and several Hollywood stars have taken to social media to honour the late icon. He died early Monday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter. Thor? Stan Lee, the visionary pioneer behind the Marvel Comics universe, has been in more films than all of them combined. With Bill Everett, he penned the first pages occupied by Daredevil, and with Steve Ditko, he introduced readers to Doctor Strange and Spider-Man. Most recently, Marvel's Spider-Man developed by Insomniac and published by Sony, was released to critical acclaim.

Marvel superheroes still dominate at the box office, with Lee making cameo appearances in each of the movies.

"There will never be another Stan Lee".

The cause of Lee's death is not known, but earlier this year it was revealed that he was fighting a bout of pneumonia.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had this to say on Twitter about Stan Lee's passing.

Lee worked with DC on Just Imagine, a comic book in which he re-imagined some of the publisher's most iconic heroes.

Lee embraced Marvel going Hollywood, which got his beloved characters to an even bigger audience.

Director Edgar Wright, who was previously attached to Marvel's Ant-Man, thanked Lee for inspiring him.

Other celebrities who paid tributes to the legendary Stan Lee includes names such as Piers Morgan, Reid Scott, Larry King, RL Stein and Seth Rogen.

Fans took particular joy in seeing Lee pop up in each and every Marvel movie. "He was the greatest, most decent man", she said in a statement. He is survived by his brother Larry Lieber and his daughter J.C.
