Donald Trump threatens to cut funding for those fighting California wildfires

State officials put the total number of people forced from their homes by California's fires at more than 200,000.

President Trump on Sunday again blamed improper forestry management for contributing to the deadly wildfires tearing through California. Trump wrote on his Twitter page on late Saturday.

"These California fires are expanding very, very quickly (in some cases 80-100 acres a minute)".

"Our firefighters have been facing some extreme, tough fire conditions that they said that they've never seen in their lives", said Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby.

In state history, two fires have killed more people: 29 in the 1933 Griffith Park fire in Los Angeles and 25 in the the Oakland Hills fire in 1991, according to The Mercury News.

Two people were also found dead in a wildfire in Southern California, where flames tore through Malibu mansions and working-class Los Angeles suburbs alike.

Fire burned in famously ritzy coastal spots like Malibu, where Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian West, Guillermo del Toro and Martin Sheen were among those forced out of their homes amid a citywide evacuation order.

The Camp Fire blaze erupted Thursday.

Firefighters used a respite from strong winds on Saturday to drop fire retardants to strengthen fire lines.

Despite the tragedy, the star wanted to keep the focus on the firefighters that are now battling the blaze as it continues to stretch across the Los Angeles area.

Donald Trump, who issued an emergency declaration to provide federal funds to firefighters battling the twin blazes, threatened to withhold funds due to "gross mismanagement" of forests. The home is on a winding stretch of Mulholland Highway with steep panoramic views, where on Saturday the roadway was littered with rocks, a few large boulders and fallen power lines, some of them still on fire. "Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!"

As of 8 a.m. Sunday, the fire had reached 10% containment with 83,275 acres burned.

The Woolsey blaze also destroyed the home of Dr Strange director Scott Derrickson and the historic Paramount Ranch where HBO's Westworld and many other shows have been filmed.

On Sunday morning he posted: "With proper Forest Management, we can stop the devastation constantly going on in California".
