Children Struck And Killed, 1 Injured While Boarding School Bus In Indiana

The National Transportation Safety Board says it's sending a team of investigators to the scene where a pickup truck struck and killed three young siblings as they crossed a northern IN road to board a school bus.

The crash happened Tuesday morning in Rochester, which is west of Fort Wayne.

The family of 6-year-old twins Xzavier and Mason Ingle and their 9-year-old sister Alivia Stahl are now left grappling with the sudden and horrific loss.

According to published reports, police said the bus had its stop arm out at the time, and the pickup truck did not stop.

Official charges have been filed against the driver involved in the school bus accident that led to the death of three Mentone Elementary School students. A fourth child, 11-year-old Maverik Lowe, was flown to a hospital to undergo emergency surgery.

The twin boys had a tendency to be a little shy, Ingle said. "They were nonstop happy, jump high, go fast boys".

He described Alivia as a girl who loved baseball and her family, especially her little brothers. It looks like Alivia seen what was happening, and she stepped up like a hero.

The driver, 24-year-old Alyssa Shepherd, is now in custody.

It added: 'He suffered broken ribs, busted knee cap, fractures in his arm and wrist.

"Dad was out here having to identify his young children that were just a few hours earlier getting ready to go to school", Indiana State Police Sgt.
