Trump Says He's 'Protecting Our Country' When Asked About Ending Transgender Recognition

Duncan says discriminatory policies like what the Trump Administration is proposing can demonize transgender people and can lead to real violence against those in the community.

If adopted under federal law, a narrowed definition of "transgender" could erode Obama-era federal court rulings about gender identity, and possibly throw into upheaval about 40 ordinances protecting trans rights in Florida, said Morgan Mayfaire, Equality Florida's Miami-Dade liaison. "The idea that a person's sex is determined by their anatomy at birth is not true, and we've known that it's not true for decades", said Dr. Joshua D. Safer, an endocrinologist and executive director of the Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery at Mount Sinai Health System in NY. "They have a lot of different things happening with respect to transgender right now", President Donald Trump said Monday amid the predictable outpouring of anger on social media.

The move, if made and followed through in coordination with other key federal departments, would mark a major shift for transgender rights under the law and reverse course from the Obama administration, which expanded the legal concept of gender in several instances to recognize gender identity did not always match one's sex as determined at birth.

HRC described the news Sunday as "the latest effort in a consistent, multi-pronged campaign by the Trump-Pence White House over the past two years to undermine the rights and welfare of LGBTQ people". He is also president of the United States Professional Association of Transgender Health.

He added, "You are either born a girl or boy, period".

Mayor Jim Kenney condemned the Trump administration proposal, calling all citizens to stand with transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming individuals.

Iran's oil minister says USA sanctions can not stop crude exports
On Tuesday, he said Saudi Arabia still intends to increase production to meet demand as US sanctions shrink Iran's crude exports. There is no guarantee that the oil price will not exceed $100 per barrel next year, Falih said.

The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering a proposal to narrowly define gender as a biological, immutable condition determined by birth genitalia, The New York Times reported yesterday. "The sex listed on a person's birth certificate, as originally issued, shall constitute definitive proof of a person's sex unless rebutted by reliable genetic evidence". "If this administration wants to try and turn back the clock by moving ahead with its own legally frivolous and scientifically unsupportable definition of sex, we will be there to meet that challenge".

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), who is now running for attorney general in his home state, tweeted, "Trump's strategy all along has been to divide us".

"We hope to make a strong statement that Florida will not be erased, Florida's transgender community will not be erased, and we will not be moved back by a bigoted and discriminatory administration", Duncan says.

"I feel very threatened, but I am absolutely resolute", Mara Keisling, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Rights, said at a news conference convened by more than a dozen activist leaders. You matter. You are loved.
