Premier League side Liverpool have been hit with another injury blow after star striker Sadio Mane reportedly broke his thumb while on worldwide duty with Senegal.

The 30-year-old was handed his 22nd worldwide cap on Tuesday as Belgium drew 1-1 in a friendly with the Netherlands, with Koeman deciding to rest Real Madrid stopper Thibaut Courtois.

Keita was replaced at halftime as Guinea were held by Rwanda away in Kigali, missing out on a chance to book their place in next year's finals in Cameroon.

Mane fractured his left thumb during Senegal's 3-0 win over Sudan on Saturday and will miss Tuesday's return fixture, according to team doctor Abdourahmane Fedior.

The extent of Keita's injury is now unknown but it is the latest set-back for Liverpool and another unwanted distraction for Klopp.

Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane was crowned the PFA Fans' Player of the Month of August following his superb start to the 2018-19 Premier League season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said before the global break that the sport's authorities need to give greater consideration for the workload consumed by players following a stretch where his club played seven games in 23 days.

Star forward Salah is also expected to play despite picking up a muscle injury with Egypt although he has returned to Liverpool so they can monitor his situation.

However, Holland captain van Dijk is believed to have picked up a more serious setback, with Oranje boss Ronald Koeman stating the centre-back has been playing with two broken ribs for weeks.
