The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced they are expecting a child, just hours after landing in Sydney for the Invictus Games.

Betfair spokesman Katie Baylis said: "Meghan's loose coat at Princess Eugenie's wedding on Friday led to speculation that an announcement was imminent and now that we have it, the Royal Baby name game starts".

In a statement, the palace said that Meghan and her husband Prince Harry are "very pleased" with the news.

Harry and Meghan - along with Prince William and his wife, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge - have stepped to the fore in the previous year as Queen Elizabeth II, 92, slightly reduces her public schedule. The 16-day tour will also see them travel to New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.

On a trip to Belfast less than two months before she married Harry in May, the former actress joked when she was shown an innovative range for newborns: "I'm sure at some point we'll need the whole (lot)".

It is believed Mrs Mulroney, 38, has helped Meghan, 37, with her style in the past, including on a recent visit to the Nelson Mandela Centenary Exhibit at London's South Bank.

This year the royal duo have 76 engagements across 16 days in Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand, which will include Sydney, Dubbo, Melbourne and Queensland's Fraser Island.

And as the happy couple arrived in Australia on Sunday for their first official tour since they got married, Meghan oddly carried purple folders in front of her stomach, with many people quickly putting two and two together.

Later this week Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex will move on down to Melbourne where they will be received by the state's politicians, meet youth leaders and take in the sites the city has to offer, including riding a tram.

Harry and Meghan were Wednesday at Windsor Castle in May and the news was announced on the eve of their first tour outside the United Kingdom and Ireland.

She also joked with fans that the child will be born the day Britain leaves the EU.
