Emergency landing following Soyuz launch failure

A Soyuz capsule attached to the station which they use to ride back to Earth is designed for a 200-day mission, meaning that their stay in orbit could only be extended briefly. American Nick Hague and Russian Alexei Ovchinin were uninjured, Russian government officials said.

Rogozin on Friday posted a picture on Twitter of himself sat next to the two astronauts and said they had now arrived in Moscow.

On Friday, the head of Russian space agency Dmitry Rogozin said both men will get another shot at their mission to ISS. The deputy chief of the Russian Federal Medical and Biological Agency, Vyacheslav Rogozhnikov, added that the two astronauts don't need medical assistance are in good health.

The crash comes after Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin accused Elon Musk of conspiring with the Pentagon to force other players out of the space industry and suggested that global astronauts had sabotaged the ISS by drilling the hole found in its hull. Shortly after launch, there was an anomaly with the booster and the launch ascent was aborted, resulting in a ballistic landing of the spacecraft.

A committee has been formed to determine what prevented the booster's separation.

"I just want to say how grateful we are as a country, the United States, for our Russian partners". "We need more data".

The Russian space agency Roscosmos tweeted that it's creating a formal commission to investigate the rocket failure.

The failure undoubtedly has major implications for the far future of the space station program, and even in more immediate terms, this will likely change how the station runs for the time being, with two fewer crewmembers than expected.

NASA and Russian Roscosmos space agency said the astronauts were in good condition after their capsule landed about 12 miles east of the city of Dzhezkazgan in Kazakhstan. Because, that would mean that the current crew overseas the International Space Station would not have to extend their stay. NASA now depends on Russian Soyuz launch systems to ferry crew members to the station.

The investigation into a mysterious hole on a Russian ISS module has been left on a cliffhanger as several spacewalks had to be scrapped after a Soyuz rocket failed to bring two crewmembers aboard the station. Russian activities in Ukraine, charges of interfering in the US presidential election of 2016 and the conflict in Syria are some of the main issues.

Thursday's failure was the first manned launch failure for the Russian space program since September 1983 when a Soyuz exploded on the launch pad.

"For a period of time, we didn't know what the situation was", Bridenstine said, his voice catching. The Soyuz MS-09 capsule which delivered them remains docked to the station and can be used to return that crew home at least through the end of the year.
