The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported on Monday evening there were no apparent skid marks before a limousine barreled through an intersection and crashed into a parked vehicle, killing 20 people in upstate NY at the weekend.

The driver, who was among those to die, did not have a licence to carry passengers.

Mr Cuomo said the limousine had been rebuilt in a way which violated federal law, adding that the vehicle hire firm, Prestige Limousine, "has a lot to answer for".

But the statement from the Lisinicchia family says they believe "that unbeknownst to him he was provided with a vehicle that was neither roadworthy nor safe for any of its occupants".

On Monday New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D, criticized Prestige for "putting a failed vehicle on the road".

There has been no immediate comment from the limousine company.

For starters: seatbelts. In New York and many other states, passengers are only legally required to wear them in the front of a limo.

Saturday's accident was the deadliest U.S. transport crash in almost a decade, according to federal authorities. The couple had rented the limousine to celebrate Amy's 30th birthday with 16 of their friends and family members.

Investigators are also looking into whether the passengers were wearing seat belts at the time.

"It was just a nice get-together for all three of us girls to have a nice day out", she said.

Axel's brother Rich Steenburg, was also killed in the crash. "I want the families to know we will be with you", said Dr. Sumwalt said the vehicle was configured for 19 seats; two up front, a rear-facing seat, a forward-facing seat in the back and seating on each side.

Among the dead are four sisters, three of whom were with their husbands, according to the siblings' aunt, Barbara Douglas. Traveling almost 60 miles per hour, he continued into the parking lot, smashing into an unoccupied parked vehicle and fatally hitting two pedestrians.

The investigation into the Schoharie limo crash-the deadliest transportation incident in America in almost a decade-continues Tuesday, as the names of the 20 victims emerge alongside new details about the driver and the vehicle itself.

Robert Sumwalt, chief of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), told CNN on Monday that the accident should be "a wake-up call" for limousine safety.

The limousine was carrying a wedding party when it collided with another vehicle outside the Apple Barrel Country Store in Schoharie (skoh-HAY'-ree), NY, on Saturday afternoon, according to local reports.

On Sunday, Mr Cuomo said he had "directed state agencies to provide every resource necessary to aid in this investigation and determine what led to this tragedy". This means the accident claimed 20 lives in a matter of seconds.

Four sisters are among 20 people dead after a limousine on its way to a 30th birthday party crashed into a parked vehicle in upstate NY.

They have been described by their family as the "Four Musketeers". Five women out for a bachelorette party were killed in 2013 when their stretch limo caught fire in Northern California because of friction between the driveshaft and the rear floorboard.

"These were young couples, just got married and had their whole lives ahead of them".
