A final showdown vote was expected Saturday.

While the vote was a victory for the GOP, lawmakers can vote differently on the climactic confirmation roll call, which seems likely Saturday afternoon.

"I have been wrestling to really try to know what is fair and what is right, and the truth is that none of this has been fair", Murkowski told reporters at the Capitol on Friday.

Murkowski's vote was the latest example of the independent streak she forged since overcoming a Republican primary challenge in 2010 to win re-election as a rare write-in candidate. As the tally neared an end, she spoke with Collins, a friend.

'It's a lot of work - maybe they don't want to do it, ' he said to the Wall Street Journal.

Trump weighed in shortly after the result was announced, tweeting, "Very proud of the U.S. Senate for voting "YES" to advance the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh!".

Vice President Mike Pence has planned to be available Saturday in case his tie-breaking vote was needed, which now seems unlikely.

The Alaska senator was the only Republican Friday to vote against moving forward on Kavanaugh, calling it a "very, very difficult" decision.

Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court seat looks all but confirmed after he won the backing of key senators despite an FBI investigation into sexual assault allegations.

Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino Sentenced To Eight Months In Prison
Sorrentino admitted concealing his income in 2011 by making cash deposits that wouldn't trigger federal reporting requirements. The government's memo argued that a prison sentence would send the message that 'tax fraud will be met with real punishment'.

US Puts Russia "On Notice" Over Treaty Violation, NATO Agrees
Hutchison later posted a tweet, saying she didn't mean "pre-emptively striking Russia". He said there is a lot of concern about that at the U.S.

Saudi Arabia And Russia Make Secret Oil Deal
Trump did not specify when he made the remarks to the Saudi monarch but they come on the back of increasing oil prices in the US. Criticizing America's longstanding military relationships with allies has been a hallmark of Mr.

Kavanaugh denied claims by former schoolmate Dr Christine Blasey Ford that he attempted to rape her during a party in the 1980s. Democrats belittled the bureau's findings, saying agents constrained by the White House hadn't reached out to numerous other people with potentially important information.

Grassley was pulled off the Senate floor by an aide so that he could expand on his remarks, at which point he explained that the committee's intense partisanship and heavy workload have made it a less glamorous post for any senator.

Tensions were also reflected by the thousands of boisterous anti-Kavanaugh demonstrators who flowed around the Capitol complex for days, confronting senators and even reported near their homes.

Republicans hold a 51-49 majority in the Senate, meaning that if all Senate Democrats oppose Mr Kavanaugh, Mr Trump can not afford to lose more than one Republican vote for his nominee, with Vice President Mike Pence casting a tiebreaking vote.

The editorial board said that Kavanaugh "poisoned any sense that he could serve as an impartial judge", following his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 27. "The well was poisoned from the outset", Schumer said. Democrats will assume Democrats are telling the truth; Republicans will assume the same of other Republicans.

Thousands of women marched on the United States capital to oppose the nomination and show solidarity with Ford.

"He gratuitously indulged in hyperpartisan rhetoric against "the left, ' describing his stormy confirmation as 'a calculated and orchestrated political hit, fuelled with apparent pent-up anger about President Trump and the 2016 election" and 'revenge on behalf of the Clintons, '" The Post's editorial board wrote. Kavanaugh has been accused by three women of sexual misconduct while he was a student at Yale and Georgetown Preparatory, an elite Jesuit high school.

Friday's "cloture" vote - 51-49 in favour - was a test of support for the embattled nominee who has faced sexual assault allegations from several women, including Prof Christine Blasey Ford.

Democrats, meanwhile, solidified their caucus's opposition to Kavanaugh, an appellate judge whose elevation to the Supreme Court could cement a decidedly conservative majority for decades.
