Here are the contenders for FIFA's top player prize

In a glittering ceremony that saw a host of footballing stars descend on London's Royal Festival Hall, home to London's Symphony Orchestra, the attractive game's chief conductors were coronated at The Best FIFA Football Awards™ in the United Kingdom's capital.

Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric has won the Men's Best Player Award.

The first 40 years (until 1995) saw the best player European awarded.

The event starts at 6:30 PM.

Croatia's captain was an inspirational figure as they surpassed all expectations to reach the World Cup final and also played a big role in Madrid's Champions League and Club World Cup wins.

In his speech, the former Spurs maestro thanked his teammates and family in English, Spanish and Croatian, and said he was proud to receive this prize in front of FIFA's deputy general secretary Zvonimir Boban, a star of Croatia's 1998 World Cup side.

Best men's Coach: Men's Coach award was won by World Cup victor Didier Deschamps, he was presented the award by compatriot and former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger. I would like to also thank those who voted for more.

The players had their say, and so did the fans, who voted for the Puskás and FIFA Fan Awards, with Mo Salah the ultimate victor of the Puskás Award thanks to his outstanding goal against Everton.

Meanwhile, Belgium's Thibaut Courtois added the Federation Internationale de Football Association goalkeeper award to the Golden Glove he collected in Russia for helping his side to third place with three clean sheets.

The female nominees for FIFA's The Best are Ada Hegerberg (Norway), Dzsenifer Marozsan (Germany) and Marta (Brazil).
