The Trump administration has "has brazenly preached unilateralism, protectionism and economic hegemony, making false accusations against many countries and regions, particularly China, intimidating other countries through economic measures such as imposing tariffs, and attempting to impose its own interests on China through extreme pressure", the official Xinhua News Agency said.

"We are going to win it", Trump's Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said of the trade war on "Fox News Sunday".

Earlier this week, the U.S. slapped an additional 10 per cent import duties on $200 billion worth of Chinese products, warning Beijing of fresh taxes on another $267 billion in Chinese imports.

The targeted Chinese imports will face 10 percent tariffs through the end of the year, and then the rate will jump to 25 percent.

Chinese officials canceled the planned negotiations after Trump announced he would impose new levies of up to 10 per cent on another $200 billion in Chinese imports, effective Monday.

The pair of powerhouse economies have already implemented tariffs on $50 billion worth of one another's exports. No date has been set for a new round of talks on the trade conflict.

After accusing the U.S. of launching the "largest trade war in economic history", analysts worry Beijing could shift to threatened "qualitative" retaliatory measures, such as damaging United States firms in China or restricting the export of crucial items.
