On Tuesday morning, the media and golf fans were made aware of the changes that are coming to the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup playoffs next season.

After the Wyndham Championship, the last tournament before the start of the FedEx Cup play-offs, the regular-season points leader will receive $2m (£1.5m) from a $10m fund shared among the top 10.

The biggest change is for the Tour Championship to crown the FedEx champion from a field of the top 30 players.

The prize money given to next year's FedEx Cup victor has been increased by $5million while those who perform well in the regular season will also benefit from a new incentive program.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said Tuesday the changes were created to make the FedEx Cup finale easier for fans to understand and to avoid the potential for separate winners of the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup. Then they showed us the data on how many people understand it, especially golf fans versus non-golf fans.

Congressional, across the Potomac River in Bethesda, Maryland, previously hosted the 1976 PGA Championship won by Dave Stockton, whose 1-over 281 remains the last time no one broke par at the PGA Championship'. The next golfer in the standings will begin at 8-under, the player in the third spot would be 7-under, and so on. 26-30 at even par. Xander Schauffele held on to win the tournament, but Justin Thomas took the FedEx Cup trophy to cap a breakout season.

The longest week: Carolinas worn out by Florence
Officials in North and SC warn that the flooding danger is far from over, with SC also ordering more evacuations as rivers rise. The National Hurricane Center said it was monitoring four areas in the Atlantic for signs of a new tropical weather threat.

Liverpool 3-2 Paris Saint-Germain
The trio have already notched up 11 goals between them this season despite only starting together twice in PSG's first five games. Having that desire is the big thing that Sturridge demonstrated, long before he scored the opening goal at Anfield on Tuesday.

Neymar congratulates Firmino after PSG's loss to Liverpool in the UCL
He was benched for the start of Liverpool's showdown with PSG, but came on to score a crucial goal and will start this weekend. Obviously, he must be docked for the two goals that he was a part of even though there was not much he could do about them.

The new $10 million regular season program, which is sponsored by Wyndham Rewards, is created to keep players and fans interest throughout the regular season at events such as the AT&T Byron Nelson in Dallas and the Charles Schwab Challenge at Fort Worth's Colonial Country Club.

The Associated Press reported on the format changes for the Tour Championship three weeks ago, and players have been mulling over them.

The tournament, which begins on Thursday, also represents one final chance for former world number one Woods to close his comeback season with a win. "So we wanted it to be something that our players embraced and fully supported".

There's more good news for whoever leads the standings next year. He won the Tour Championship before in 2016 and finished tied for second in 2014. Right behind Thomas are Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy, who are listed at 9-1. While the points structure for the first two events will remain the same (awarding quadruple points compared to FedExCup Regular Season events), there will be a significant change to the format for the TOUR Championship.

In addition to the $10 million Wyndham Rewards Top 10, the existing FedExCup bonus pool will increase by $25 million, to $60 million.
