Police responding to a 911 call discovered a 3-day-old girl and a 1-month-old girl who had been stabbed in the abdomen, and a 20-day-old girl with cuts on her ear, chin and lip.

The three infants stabbed were girls ranging in three days to one month old. Nine babies were at the house during the attack, NBC News reports.

One woman suffered multiple stab wounds to the torso, and a man was stabbed in the leg.

The woman was found in the basement of the in-home center with self-inflicted cuts to her wrists, a New York Police Department official told AFP. A bloody kitchen knife and meat cleaver were found at the scene, police said. Someone called 911 and the suspect is now in police custody at the hospital. The father of one of the children and a woman who worked there were also stabbed, police said.
