Apple kicked off its September 12 iPhone event with the unveiling of the Apple Watch Series 4, which offers a variety of upgrades and new features. Apple sold nearly 12 times as many iPhones - 216 million - previous year. This will make the new Watch better. Apple's Digital Crown has also been improved to provide haptic feedback.

While many of these features will see release in Australia as soon as the Apple Watch Series 4 is made available, at least one will not: the ECG.

Significantly, Apple said the new watch had a faster processor and better health and motion sensors. "That leads to more interaction with the health-care system".

The bigger screen, which stretches closer to the edge of the watch, makes the watch easier to use - but Ive sees it as a way to be less glued to our devices. All were eagerly waiting for that day and finally, we got to know about the recent Apple products.

It's a tried-and-true strategy for the company to milk a product line that has saturated the market; Apple said Wednesday that it had shipped almost 2 billion iPhones and iPads.

The latest Apple Watch version unveiled Wednesday is pushing the health envelope even further - in particular by taking electrocardiograms, or EKGs, on the device, a feature given clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Apple said. The watch has a titanium electrode that works with the electrodes in the back crystal.

This was reference to the fact that it has an electrocardiogram (ECG) built in along with a slew of other healthcare features.

The results are then displayed for you. Apple says it will educate you when you first start using the app, but that process was not previewed in advance.

The app's health information can be organized into separate "workout samples" that are compilations of information taken while you exercise.

The Apple Watch Series 4 has been completely re-designed and re-engineered from its Series 3. Battery life remains the same. Apple says such sensors can analyze wrist trajectory and impact acceleration. If after such a tumble the watch detects no movement, it will assume you're out cold and need help. Or you can tap an emergency SOS button to solicit assistance. It even features fall detection and can automatically notify emergency services in case the user is incapacitated. To take an ECG, the user simply opens up the ECG app and presses their finger to the Digital Crown. To that effect, 17% of our readers responded that the only reason they were interested in the new iPhone announcements is because it might affect future Android phones.

Of course, some customers are going to understandably be skittish about the prospect of insurers grabbing hold of any health data through the app. Over time, Apple has refined the device to focus on its health and fitness capabilities. But some doctors said that including heart-monitoring tools in such a popular consumer product could prompt unnecessary anxiety and medical visits.
