Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened but say it appears that after working a full shift, the officer went home to her apartment complex, the Southside Flats in the 1200 block of South Lamar, but went to the wrong unit. The officer reportedly believed Jean was an intruder in her own home.

Amber Guyger, or Amy Gyger, allegedly had some type of relationship with Jean, 26, before he reportedly opened the door she was trying to force her way into and shot him dead on the spot, according to hundreds of tweets as of Saturday morning.

She says she spoke with Jean's sister to officer condolences to the family.

Jean was born in the Caribbean and later moved to the United States, where he graduated in 2016 from Harding University in Arkansas.

'So there's a lot of information I understand you guys want but this is all we can give you at this time, ' Mitchell added.

Hall said the officer had been questioned only when other officers responded to the shooting Thursday night.

A blood draw was taken from the officer to test for drugs and alcohol, Police Chief Renee Hall said at a press conference.

The Department of Public Safety, which oversees the Texas Rangers, didn't immediately reply to a Saturday phone message seeking comment about the investigation.
