John Legend becomes youngest person to reach EGOT status

Legend is the first African-American man to become an EGOT - the acronym used for an Emmy, Golden Globe, Oscar, and Tony victor - according to Buzzfeed. "I probably wanted to win some GRAMMYs and sell a lot of records, and all that started happening pretty quickly, but I never dreamed that I would be here, winning an Emmy, and being in that rare group of people that have won all four of these major [awards]".

Robert Lopez, who was the composer on the likes of 'Frozen' and "The Book of Mormon", got his EGOT status in 10 years whilst Legend made his in 12 years. So honored they trusted me to play Jesus Christ. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, producers of the OG JCS, also joined this group after Sunday's win.

John Legend could also win another award at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, where he is up for outstanding actor in a limited series or movie.

The singer took home an Emmy from Sunday's Creative Arts ceremony for his producer role on NBC's "Jesus Christ Superstar", which won live variety special.

He added: "I'm happy I was part of such a great show". So amazed to be in such rarefied air.

Their "Christmas Story Live" number "In the Market for a Miracle", lost the Emmy for original music and lyrics to the "Saturday Night Live" song "Come Back, Barack".

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, both involved in the stage production, also joined Legend as new EGOT winners. The Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie will be awarded at the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony on September 17.
