One of the closest watched races was longtime democratic incumbent Congressman Michael Capuano, who lost his seat to Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley. Pressley defeated 10-term Rep. Michael Capuano, who had been endorsed by nearly every major figure in the state's political establishment, including Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh, the New York Times reports. With no Republican challenger, she is poised to become the state's first black woman in Congress.

"What I know is that politicians manage government, visionaries lead a commonwealth and what we have at the top of this ticket is a visionary who will innovate, who will be bold, which is what these time require and what our Commonwealth deserves", she said referring to Gonzalez.

Just about every race had something to offer the voters of the commonwealth.

Pressley has served on Boston's city council since 2009, with a mandate to support women and girls.

The race was just one of a slate of contested primaries in MA on Tuesday. In making his concession remarks, Capuano told his campaign team, "I will tell you Ayanna Pressley is going to be a good congresswoman and I will tell you that MA is going to be well served".

The congressional district is the only one in the state where minorities comprise a majority of the population.

Capuano, a 20-year incumbent, was one of the most progressive members of Congress.

Her total in Boston was just 1,800 fewer votes than Capuano received throughout the whole 7th district. U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy, a grandson of former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, also endorsed the incumbent, calling him "a guy who won't shy away from steep odds or tough truths".

That she'd diversify Massachusetts' all-white, mostly male House delegation is "the bonus" of her candidacy she said during that interview. At the state level, plenty of other progressive women candidates have been quietly following suit, from Jillian Gilchrest in CT to Andrea Romero in New Mexico.

According to data from the Associated Press, Pressley won much of the Seventh Congressional District, which includes portions of Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Milton, Randolph, and Somerville.

Pressley will vie for a seat in the House of Representatives after a career in Boston's City Council.

Pressley is backed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the leftist socialist who defeated Crowley in NY on a message of pushing to "Abolish ICE".

She made a slogan of the line "those who are close to the pain should be close to the power".

Capuano conceded the race at around 9 p.m. Secondly, I wore these cute little yellow neon shoes last night and I figured they were good luck so I wore them again today - and they hurt.
