Houston Rockets trade Ryan Anderson, De'Anthony Melton to Phoenix Suns

A person with knowledge of the situation says Phoenix and Houston are close to finalizing a trade that would send forward Ryan Anderson to the Suns and point guard Brandon Knight to the Rockets.

Phoenix also acquired 2018 first-round pick De'Anthony Melton in return. "De'Anthony is a talented young guard who stood out for us throughout the pre-draft process and at the NBA Summer League". With Knight gone and Phoenix having traded or dumped two other former Cats who played point guard in Eric Bledsoe and Tyler Ulis in the past year, the Suns have only one former United Kingdom star left in Devin Booker.

Last night, the Houston Rockets finally moved their dead weight elsewhere.

Phoenix has until July 10, 2019, to decide on picking up Anderson's $21.3 million deal or waiving him for $15.6 million. Here is why the trade makes sense for the Rockets.

Chriss looked like the odd man out of the rotation with additions Trevor Ariza and Mikal Bridges. The Rockets will receive 2016 No. 8 overall pick Marquese Chriss. The 21st overall pick in the 2008 draft, he has played for four different teams, averaging 12.8 points and 5.4 rebounds a game. However, Knight still has career averages of 15.2 points, 4.3 assists and he has shot 35.7 percent from 3-point range.

Knight main came off the bench in 2016, averaging 11 points per game. Harrison played 23 games for the Suns last season and showed a great work ethic and some real potential, he was solid when he was in for them. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the Rockets have engaged in a trade deal with the Phoenix Suns.

Melton, a combo guard, is a rookie from USC.

Knight missed all of last season due to a torn ACL.

The Suns now are expected to focus on obtaining an experienced point guard.

In the 2015-16 season, Knight averaged 19.6 points and was clearly the second best player on the Suns.
