3 impacts Josh Donaldson trade has on the Tribe

The Blue Jays have agreed to trade the third baseman and cash to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for a player to be named later.

The Blue Jays sure sound eager to move Donaldson no matter what, so it may just be a matter of getting a team to take on a lot of his remaining salary (if he's cleared waivers, or if he was claimed by the Cardinals) to get a deal done.

Now that Donaldson has officially started in on a rehab stint, however, a return to the field during the last month of the season doesn't seem entirely out of the question. Despite that, Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports has been told teams are showing interest. Just bad timing. The injuries have probably already cost Donaldson tens of millions of dollars.

After a couple of fielding misplays and an error from the Rangers, Donaldson made arguably the most famous dash to home plate in Blue Jays history and used his heads-up base running to seal Toronto's berth in the 2016 ALCS.

Granderson is batting.243 on the seasons with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs.

And it's not because of the way Toronto's front office has jerked around 2015 American League MVP Josh Donaldson.

After spending parts of four big-league seasons in Oakland, Donaldson had a monster first year with the Blue Jays. That helped the Blue Jays reach their first AL East Division crown since 1993. Now that Donaldson is gone, it leaves only a handful of holdovers from those Blue Jays rosters. Still, those are the only two times Donaldson has appeared in games since May, so he remains something of an unknown for 2018. After losing to the Cubs in the 2016 World Series, Cleveland returned to the postseason a year ago, falling to the Yankees in the ALDS.

The 32-year-old has been sidelined since May 28 with a calf injury.

Before arriving in the big leagues, Donaldson spent three years at Auburn University.

The danger in this scenario is that Donaldson would accept the offer which is not something the Blue Jays reportedly would like to happen.
