Rudy Giuliani said Mr Trump had been completely cleared by the Michael Cohen affair and there was no reason he should be impeached.

Trump can hardly complain about Giuliani bolting to a Scottish course - the president did so himself during his visit to the United Kingdom last month.

Today, it is Republicans leaders who are under pressure to break with Trump, denounce him, and call for new investigations into alleged collusion with the Russians.

Cuomo told reporters on Thursday that he believes "it would be an impeachable offense" if Trump used his pardon power to prevent someone like Cohen from implicating him in a crime.

In the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election, Ms McDougal sold her story to the Enquirer, which is owned by a personal friend of Mr Trump.

Cohen attorney Lanny Davis, in an interview with Reuters, confirmed that Cohen stood by his earlier statement to lawmakers that he did not know whether Trump was aware of the June 9 meeting beforehand.

"If I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash".

Taking the Cohen news as a personal betrayal, Trump criticized his longtime fixer for "flipping", saying on "Fox and Friends" that such double-crossers "make up things" to get reduced prison time and become "a national hero". At a press conference later that day, Clinton said, "I think given all we have heard and seen, [Wright] would not have been my pastor".

Still, as of now, it is hard to see how two-thirds of a new Senate would convict this president of high crimes and misdemeanors.

He repeated his denial of former lawyer Michael Cohen's claims that he had Cohen him to pay-off two porn stars who claimed they'd slept with him to avoid bad publicity during the 2016 election campaign. "For 30, 40 years I've been watching flippers", Mr Trump said.

Michael Cohen's lawyer Lanny Davis says that members of the Senate Intelligence Committee failed to ask the right "follow-up questions" when his client appeared before the panel previous year and therefore failed to elicit crucial answers about President Trump's prior knowledge of Russian hacking of Democratic emails during the 2016 election.

In that interview, Trump said the hush payments were financed with his own money - to which Cohen had access - and that while he had no knowledge of them at the time, he had since been fully transparent.

Clinton's obsequious fixer has been all over the media in recent days hinting that Trump's former attorney has bombshell information about the Russian Federation investigation that Mueller would be "interested in".

These campaign finance laws apply only to payments made "for the goal of influencing an election", a phrase that's critical to the statutory definitions of "contribution" and "expenditure".

Trump himself has opined on this possibility in recent days, telling Fox News in an interview that he doesn't "know how you can impeach somebody who's done a great job".

Mr Trump has rarely spoken about the prospect of being impeached. People make up stories.

According to former Central Intelligence Agency director Michael Hayden, the real issue is the Trump campaign's handling of the meeting.

Manafort faces separate charges in September in the District of Columbia that include acting as a foreign agent. The whole thing was just such an absurd repetition of everything wrong with Donald Trump that, honestly, we're running out of things to say about it.

Besides his work for Trump, Cohen spent years amassing yellow cab medallions, the hard-to-get licenses adorned to the hoods of taxis in NY and Chicago that were once worth a fortune, but whose values have plummeted in recent years due to competition from ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft.
