Huawei Caught Using DSLR Photos to Highlight Phone's Camera

It's in that last instance where it's been confirmed that Huawei actually used a DSLR to snap the still shot rather than a Nova 3 capturing a selfie.

In its new commercial ad, a couple is seen taking selfies of themselves using the new Nova 3i phone in different environment and lighting.

"The product images and the contents are provided for reference only".

The goal of this advertisement is to demonstrate how consumers can use the features of the HUAWEI nova 3 and nova 3i. The company is yet to issue a statement on the issue, but this is not the first time that smartphone makers have been caught using a DSLR, while trying to promote their phone's camera.

"The photo supposedly shows that the phone's artificial intelligence (AI)-driven beauty feature digitally altered the image so she didn't have to finish applying real makeup to look like she was wearing it", arstechnica.com reported on Tuesday. The ad doesn't directly say that the shots, which are stills passed for photo samples, were taken using the Huawei Nova 3i device, but it is implied as the man is seen extending his arm and pretending to take a shot using his phone.

UEFA nominates Salah, Modric and Ronaldo for player of the year award
The UEFA award for the best Europe-based player last season won't be won by a World Cup champion from France. Salah's success in his first campaign at Anfield also saw him named the PFA Player of the Year.

The heavy emphasis placed on smartphone cameras these days are sending companies scrambling to prove theirs is the best, be it in camera hardware, AI features, or both.

Huawei has published an ad of its new mobile gadget sporting several cameras and impressive AI specs for the avid selfie-taker. Yes, Huawei never said these images (or the images on their website) were taken by their phone, but do you think that's honest advertising? Instead, it's a photographer behind a DSLR that is taking the shot.

As found through the Reddit user, the female model in the touted picture is Sarah Elshamy who herself disclosed this act of Huawei's on her Instagram account.

It's not the first marketing mishap for the Chinese manufacturer, with Huawei famously exposed for photoshopping bezels out of its P8 smartphone renders. So the two take a photo. The Nova 3 also comes with dual VoLTE support. So, there was no need for Huawei to pull out such a trick, which has come back to haunt the company. We recognise though that we should have been clearer with the captions for this image.
