President weighs-in on McGahn testimony

According to the New York Times, McGahn in at least three voluntary interviews with investigators that totaled 30 hours over the past nine months, described Trump's furor toward the Russian Federation investigation and the ways in which the president urged McGahn to respond to it.

During this time, he gave "a clear view of the president's most intimate moments with his lawyer", sharing information the paper says investigators would not have previously known about.

That has prompted concern among Mr. Trump's advisers that Mr. McGahn's statements could help serve as a key component for a damning report by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, which the Justice Department could send to Congress, according to two people familiar with the discussions.

Giuliani told NBC News that if Trump had considered trying to remove Mueller that would not be criminal. "I have nothing to hide".

Mr Dean tweeted on Saturday night in response to the Times story: "Trump, a total incompetent, is bungling and botching his handling of Russiagate".

In classic pugnacious style, Trump's current lawyer in the Russian Federation investigation, Rudy Giuliani, accused Mueller of leaking the McGahn story as an act of desperation in the absence of evidence on which to hang charges.

Nixon administration attorney John Dean, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to obstruct justice during the 1970s Whitegate scandal, told Slate on Saturday that McGahn did the "right thing" to cooperate "extensively" with Mueller's investigation.

"I allowed White House Counsel Don McGahn, and all other requested members of the White House Staff, to fully cooperate with the Special Counsel", Trump tweeted.

China says USA solar tariffs violate trade rules, lodges WTO complaint
President Donald Trump on Wednesday morning took to Twitter, as he often does, to lambaste some of his favourite targets: the U.S. China responded with similar penalties on American imports.

Giuliani said during "Meet the Press" that Trump didn't raise executive privilege or attorney-client privilege during those interviews because his team believed - he says now, wrongly - that fully participating would be the fastest way to bring the investigation to a close. White House counselor Kellyanne Conway famously referred to it as "alternative facts".

McGahn's testimony would be even more important if Trump does not sit for an interview with Mueller. There's still negotiation about whether the president should testify.

The president reiterated that message on Sunday. "However, he didn't think I would tell them the truth!"

McGahn has told Mueller's team that he never personally witnessed Trump breaking the law, but the information he has divulged could be potentially damaging.

Todd insisted: "Truth is truth", Giuliani responded: "Truth isn't truth".

Study the late Joseph McCarthy, because we are now in period with Mueller and his gang that make Joseph McCarthy look like a baby!

The comparison is a little unusual, considering that, while McCarthy may have been disgraced for his hearings, eventual investigations did uncover some Communist sympathies, particularly in Hollywood. "Rigged Witch Hunt!" Trump wrote on Twitter.

Dean, who has criticised Trump in recent years, voiced support for McGahn.
