Several NFL players protest during national anthem

Trump's latest NFL Twitter tirade came after several players from the Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles kneeled or raised their fists ahead of their teams' Thursday night preseason match-ups. "Numerous players, from different teams, wanted to show their "outrage" at something that a lot of them are unable to define", Trump tweeted. Most of the money goes to the players anyway.

Asked what he'd like to see in order to get back to a better place with the league, Jenkins said he wants the anthem policy eliminated altogether.

"I think it was just a culmination of how the offseason went and where we are now", Jenkins said.

And in Seattle, three Seahawks players ran into the team's locker room prior to the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner".

The National Football League has struggled with how to address the issue of protesting players who kneel as the national anthem is played, as they react to Trump's drumbeat of attacks over the past year while managing relations with its players and maintaining its fans.

On "Outnumbered", Katie Pavlich said it seems like the players who continue to protest during the anthem have no interest in coming to the middle or understanding why so many people find their demonstrations offensive.

The league noted that while players won't be disciplined, it expects all players on the field to stand during the presentation of the flag and the anthem.

Representatives for the National Football League and the Players Coalition did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick tweeted his support for the Miami players.

President Donald Trump has weighed in on the issue multiple times since the protests started.

Wilson said he joined the protest because he felt the Dolphins organization gave him the freedom to.

However, he's also been criticized recently for questioning the intelligence of several notable African Americans - including CNN anchor Don Lemon and California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters.

Usually, presidents don't begin their statements with "Be happy, be cool", but here we are. Players have been protesting police killings of black men, social injustice and racism as they kneel. No players protested during the anthem at last week's Hall of Fame Game between the Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears in Canton, Ohio, which opened the preseason. But the policy, announced in May, was put on hold when the NFL and NFL Players Association agreed to suspend enforcement of the new rules.

It is, of course, not the first time the president has weighed in on the matter.
