His 149 in India's first innings was the 22nd century of his 67-match Test tenure.

"We'll have to wait to see what the surface looks like tomorrow morning but ultimately on the last couple of occasions, whoever has played well in the first innings has managed to contain that threat through the rest of the game".

England have outstretched the selection for this week's match at Lord's against India to 20 year old Surrey batsman Ollie Pope, axing the struggling Dawid Malan.

"From outside it looks very bad, especially as it is Test cricket and we are playing in England where it is anyway hard".

India came up with a decent performance in Edgbaston but it was not enough to stop Joe Root's men from taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The uncapped Essex seam bowler Jamie Porter again misses out from the squad of 13. There were plenty of positives for both the sides coming out of that match.

It will be interesting to see who England will turn to in the absence of Stokes.

"It hurts when you are not scoring runs (and) as well, the team is not doing well", Kohli said ahead of the crunch clash at the hone of cricket.

Team India: Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav.

"I think Steve Smith is probably the hungriest batsman but he's obviously not playing for 12 months, so Kohli really is the premier batsman in world cricket". An improvement on the batting front will be on both sides' agenda for this game. The visitors' bowling unit impressed, picking 20 wickets for the fourth successive time on the road since the start of the year, but their batting, barring captain Kohli, was a big letdown.

We feel Shikhar Dhawan too could make way for C Pujara, who was surprisingly left out in the first Test.

But Arun said Jasprit Bumrah was "out of contention", the paceman still sidelined after missing the first Test with the broken thumb he suffered during a T20 worldwide against Ireland in June.

As for India needing more runs from their batsmen, Arun said: "If you look at the (Edgbaston) scores, it's only Virat Kohli and Joe Root who have been able to contend with the moving ball".

But he was wary of playing an extra batsman at Lord's.
