Some have suggested that the prosecution of Manafort is going forward because Special Counsel Robert Mueller wants him to provide evidence against the president.

They did shift slightly on format, agreeing to accept some written answers, including on matters in which they want to preserve the ability to have Mr. Trump answer follow-ups in person.

President Donald Trump's legal team and special counsel Robert Mueller's office are reportedly closing in on a deal to allow Mueller to interview the president.

Sessions was an ardent Trump supporter and had met Russia's ambassador to the US Sergei Kislyak during Trump's campaign and later had to recuse himself from the Russian probe according to the US Department of Justice guidelines.

In a series of tweets, he said Attorney General Jeff Sessions must halt the inquiry into alleged election meddling.

In a reference to the special prosecutor who is heading-up the Russian Federation probe, the president added: "Bob Mueller is totally conflicted, and his 17 Angry Democracts that are doing his dirty work are a disgrace to the United States of America!".

Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the ranking Democrat on the Senate intelligence committee who has criticized Trump for not taking a stronger leadership role on election security, said he was heartened by the White House news conference.

The New York Times reports Robert Mueller's Russian Federation team is scrutinizing the president's tweets, examining whether tweets plus private pressure on top justice officials like Attorney General Jeff Sessions equal obstruction of justice.

Coats is addressing reporters Thursday during a White House briefing on the Trump Administration's efforts to prevent future foreign and outside interference in US elections. "The President has expressed the same opinion".

In an interview with VICE News Tonight on HBO, aired July 11, Emin Agalarov said he spoke to Trump Jr.to help set up the meeting.

"These old charges have nothing to do with Collusion - a Hoax!" he tweeted.

Sessions, an early Trump backer, recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation in March 2017 as controversy grew over his conversations during the presidential campaign with Russia's ambassador to the U.S. "Ongoing obstruction of justice in real time right before our eyes-as Trump's tweets add mounting evidence of criminal intent".

Trump tweeted on Wednesday that Manafort "worked for me for a very short period of time" but sought to defend his former aide's bona fides.

While some Republicans on Capitol Hill were critical of Trump's latest tweets, others were more reticent. At that meeting, Trump declined to accept the USA intelligence community's conclusion that Russian Federation had attempted to influence the 2016 election in his favor and pointed to Putin's denial.

Of the call to stop the trial, Ms Sanders said: "It's not an order".

But he also said the team would consider "one or two questions" of obstruction if "they really need".

The president's tweets also came on the second day of his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort's trial-the first out of Mueller's probe.

Manafort is scheduled to go on trial in September on separate charges brought by Mueller of conspiracy, money laundering and failing to register as an agent of a foreign government. While the White House has said the president's tweets amount to official statements, the president's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani later Wednesday issued a statement to ABC News describing the tweet merely as Trump's "opinion". Giuliani said. "We have every reason to believe they don't have anything".

An element of Mueller's investigation includes whether Trump or anyone in the campaign tried to obstruct justice.
