During an Axios interview on Thursday, Ivanka Trump said that she opposes the administration's practice of separating families at the border, agreeing with other White House staffers that it's a "a low point in the White House". "I am very vehemently against family separation".

"Imagine being complicit in the horrifying kidnapping of children, the separation of families, and the detention of immigrants in inhumane conditions-and commenting about how hard this has been for *you*", they said.

Ivanka continued: "I am a daughter of an immigrant, my mother grew up in Communist Czech Republic, but we are a country of laws".

She also said that that while she had "some sensitivity" with her father's criticism of the press and accusations of "fake news", she did not believe the media to be the "enemy of the people". As a result of the policy, thousands of migrant children were separated from their parents and placed in holding facilities while the adults faced prosecution. "I did not feel comfortable with that", she said.

"I´m here to speak on behalf of the president", White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters, as she declined to reject Trump´s "enemy of the people" sobriquet.

Speaking publicly for the first time since she shuttered her eponymous fashion brand last week, the first daughter and senior advisor to President Donald Trump took a decidedly different approach than her combative father to stress that the immigration crisis has caused her anxiety.

Lanza said that CNN was only focusing on Ivanka Trump's differing views instead of the entire interview.

"These are not easy issues; these are incredibly hard issues", she said. We do not have a border crisis; the zero-tolerance policy was created to punish migrants and to excite Trump's base.

"These are not easy issues".

Rubin also argues that it doesn't appear the president's daughter is actually getting anything substantial by staying at the White House - the paid family leave policy she touted during the campaign isn't going to happen, as she even admitted Thursday morning.

Melania visited a border patrol centre in Arizona and said she aimed to "educate" herself about current immigration issues.

But she said she felt "very strongly" about the issue.
