Four boats left Scandinavia in mid-May and have since stopped in 28 ports throughout Europe to garner support for the Palestinians in Gaza.

The Gaza-bound flotilla had set sail from Norway on May 15 under the slogan "Right to a Just Future for Palestine" as part of a campaign to break an 11-year Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip.

The attempt was the latest in a decade-long series of attempts by pro-Palestinian activists to break the naval blockade. The group said the supplies were "a small but important contribution to the increasingly dire medical situation" in Gaza.

Israeli forces have violently boarded a ship, being followed by Consortium News, that was headed to Gaza bringing humanitarian aid.

The worldwide Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) is a grassroots people-to-people solidarity movement composed of campaigns and initiatives from all over the world working together to end the siege of Gaza.

It said afterwards on Twitter that the boat had been "hijacked by Israeli forces".

Marama Davidson said the global community should be demanding an end to the illegal blockade, and asking Israel to stop impeding the flotilla's passage to Gaza to deliver medical supplies.

The territory is home to 2 million Palestinians, mainly the stateless descendants of people who fled or were driven out of what is now Israel at its founding in 1948.

Hamza Abu Shanab, another political observer and writer from Gaza, believes that the field behavior of both sides has become the main determinant in escalating or decreasing tension.
