On Wednesday, Trump reaffirmed in a tweet that Russian Federation "had agreed to help with Noth Korea", adding sanctions he extended on Pyongyang earlier in April would remain in place.

The United States last week complained to the 15-member Security Council North Korea sanctions committee that as of May 30, there had been 89 illicit ship-to-ship transfers of refined petroleum products this year by Pyongyang. We have no speed limit.

But Russia's United Nations mission put a "hold" on the US request on Thursday, telling the committee it is "seeking additional information on every single case of "illegal" transfer of petroleum", diplomats said.

Before the Singapore summit, the Trump administration said denuclearisation should start "without delay", and after the meeting, it spoke of the process beginning "very quickly".

"The United States has started to recognize clearly that it will take a considerable amount of time for North Korea's complete denuclearization".

Speaking at a cabinet meeting chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, Pompeo, who held inconclusive talks in North Korea earlier this month, said progress had been made on some issues.

North Korea has called for a more reciprocal approach with economic and diplomatic incentives tied to each phase of the process.

"President Putin is going to be involve in the sense that he is with us", Trump said.

Subsequent negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang have so far not produced any significant progress.

Last week North Korea accused the United States of making "gangster-like" demands for the process, and branded the United States attitude at high-level talks as "extremely troubling". The president also famously called North Korea an "extraordinary threat" to the U.S., justifying more pressure on Pyongyang.

"If necessary, penalties will be imposed".
