The report has since been corroborated by BBC Sport, meaning that a deal that will see the 28-year-old return to his homeland for an initial €16m (potentially rising to €21m) is very close to fruition.

Manchester United have accepted a bid for Dutch defender Daley Blind, with Ajax offering £14m for their former player, according to the Express.

Blind arrived at Man United in a £13.8m deal in 2014, following former Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal to the club after their successful World Cup 2014 campaign.

He was missing when Jose Mourinho and the rest of the United squad flew out from Manchester Airport to Los Angeles to begin their pre-season tour of the United States on Sunday.

However, Blind struggled for form and fitness last season and barely featured during Mourinho's second season at the club.

Blind has made 141 appearances in the past four years, and has was won the UEFA Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup. The Dutchman has served as a competent utility player for United over four years, performing well in defensive midfield as well as central defence and left-back.

The arrival of Daley at Ajax could change the Dutch club's stance. "For Netherlands and for Manchester United, he played many good games.it would be a great addition for Ajax to have a player with the quality of Daley to fit in the team".
