The range of devices before the Microsoft Surface was officially joined by a low-priced Surface of Go, the recommended price which begins at $ 399.

How does it compare with the Surface Pro?

The lightweight, 1.15-pound Surface Go - about twice as big as many smartphones - is created to be portable, but Microsoft has also developed accessories to give it more of a laptop feel.

Microsoft has unveiled its smallest and least expensive Surface tablet yet, a long-rumored portable device that will compete with Apple's iPad Mini.

Save for the processor and smaller 10-inch display, the Surface Go is basically a mirror image of previous Surface entries: it features an integrated kickstand, has large bezels all around the display, and is able to run either a standard version of Windows 10 or Windows 10 S. The pricing of the Surface Go starts from United States dollars 399 (INR 27,400) for the 64 GB storage with 4 GB RAM, whereas the 128 GB storage variant with 8 GB RAM costs USD 529 (INR 36,327).

And so far as ports are concerned, the Surface Go comes with the same Surface Connector port which again is typical of all Surface Pro devices.

Microsoft have announced their latest product from the Surface team.

The Surface Go is available to pre-order now, with prices starting at "a very tempting £380", says Alphr.

Surface Go supports the Windows Hello feature that lets you use the front-facing camera of the tablet to sign in with your mug. Apple's iPad poses another formidable challenge - Surface Go is closer in price to the entry-level ($329) iPad than the more robust iPad Pro.

The Wi-Fi version will be released first with a LTE version coming later this year.

Microsoft made no mention of what version of Windows 10 this runs but, as it hasn't specifically stated it, it's likely you'll be working with Windows 10 Home instead of the pared-down Windows found on the Surface Laptop.

In terms of connectivity, Microsoft has stated that it comes with the Surface Connect charging and docking port alongside a USB Type-C connector "for data, video and charging". Additional pricier models will also be available, bumping up the memory to 8GB and offering 256GB of storage. It also has high precision tuning and Windows Precision Trackpad that supports 5 point multi-finger gestures, and you can connect the new Surface Mobile Mouse to work the way that you want.

Available for pre-order starting today - although the listing isn't now live on the Microsoft Store at time of writing - the Surface Go will be available for purchase from 2 August.
