Federation Internationale de Football Association condemned comments by Diego Maradona on Wednesday, after the Argentinian legend claimed that Colombia only lost to England in the World Cup last 16 because of the appointment of referee Mark Geiger for the match. England, who had never won a penalty shootout in the World Cup before, managed to scape through with 4-3 scoreline, with Mateus Uribe and Carlos Bacca missing their shots.

American referee Mark Geiger has been widely criticised for his failure to take control of a match that constantly threatened to boil over.

As the players left the pitch at half-time Colombia coach Eduardo Urtasun barged into Sterling who said: "I just remember running in and someone stepped in front of me".

"The referees are chosen by [Pierluigi] Collina, who was appointed by Infantino to change the new Federation Internationale de Football Association from thieves and fixers, and today we saw the opposite - an old and fixed Federation Internationale de Football Association".

Maradona, who was photographed in a Colombia shirt before the match, had accused England players of conning Geiger and said the referee should have reviewed, and then overturned, the penalty decision. He must apologize to the Colombian people, " Maradona told Venezuelan broadcaster Telesur according to Dailymail.

One incident that was caught by the camera was the headbutt by Colombia's Wilmar Barrios on Jordan Henderson which earned him a yellow card that some observers felt should have been a red.

Even though Sweden ousted them from the competition in the group stage, the number is still probably pretty low. "In fact, it was Kane's fault", Maradona went on.

Despite the rough treatment, Jamie Vardy is England's only injury doubt for the last-eight match against Sweden in Samara on Saturday and Stones said Colombia came off worse in being sent home.
