Trump plans to hold talks with Putin "tete-a-tete"

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussed preparations on Tuesday for the summit in Helsinki between presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

A group of Republican U.S. lawmakers met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow Tuesday with hopes of mending the relationship between the two countries. "We can be competitors".

Shelby told Lavrov the meeting was arranged "realizing that we have a strained relationship when we could have a better relationship between the USA and Russian Federation".

"I think he will arbitrarily, straight across the board, in defiance of law, at the end of the Putin-Trump summit, will declare Russian Federation good boys and will say we need to lift the sanctions", he said.

"I think that the resumption of dialogue between parliamentarians is going to be a very timely event on the eve of the forthcoming meeting between the two presidents a couple of weeks from now in Helsinki", added Lavrov.
