BU Grad Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Unseats 10-Term Incumbent

A day later, a more poised Ocasio-Cortez seems to have moved on from shock to ambition.

History suggests that Trump's Republican Party, like the parties of virtually every first-term president dating back to Ronald Reagan in 1982, will suffer losses this fall.

Other progressive candidates challenging incumbent Democrats in the congressional primaries on Tuesday failed to topple their opponents, but their strong showing demonstrated that the Democratic establishment in NY is weaker than previously supposed.

Holtzman was 31 when she entered Congress, the youngest woman ever elected to the House.

One of the many new female faces joining United States politics this year, Ms Ocasio-Cortez is a Bronx-born Latina, a community organiser and educator from a working-class background. "I knew he didn't have a strong presence", she said.

Jealous will face the incumbent Republican Larry Hogan in November. Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, which bills itself as the largest socialist organization in the US.

"The increased militarization and willingness to commit human rights abuses - we are at that point", she said.

Instead, his eyes were focused on potentially challenging Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi for House speaker if Democrats were to take a House majority in November's midterm elections.

Ocasio-Cortez responded by urging support for Pressley.

Mexico have failed to get beyond the last 16 since 1986, when they reached the quarter-finals as tournament hosts. After the game, Durmaz faced a barrage of abuse on social media, including racist insults and death threats.

BNSF: Estimated 230000 gallons of oil spilled in derailment
ConocoPhillips spokesman Daren Beaudo said each tanker can hold more than 25,000 gallons (20,817 imperial gallons) of oil. Metropolitan Utilities District, which provides the Omaha metro area's drinking water, said it was monitoring the spill.

In a campaign ad, she said going into politics was never the plan.

"Not all Democrats are the same", she said in her May campaign video, adding - her voice rising with emotion - that a Democrat who "doesn't send his kids to our schools, doesn't drink our water or breathe our air can not possibly represent us".

"It's about making change in Washington", said Crowley, who in his leadership role has raised money for Democrats around the country.

Mr Crowley had not faced a challenger from his own party in 14 years in the mostly ethnic minority district, which covers parts of the Bronx and Queens in NY. He was, more so than some of the other House members who were challenged, an extremely active and visible presence in both NY and Washington, an aggressive fundraiser, and known for being a charming, back-slapping pol. She was also an organizer on Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign.

Other upset victories against establishment New York Democrats tonight included Liuba Grechen Shirley, in NY02, and Dana Balter, in NY24, who each ran-like Ocasio-Cortez-on shoestring budgets.

Ocasio-Cortez also called for the impeachment of President Trump and abolition of ICE. A Harvard-Harris poll conducted in April 2017 showed Sanders was the most popular politician in the United States, with his highest ratings coming from people of color and women.

While Foley's district had grown more conservative during his tenure, Crowley's district had shifted from a largely Irish-American population to a multi-racial area in which whites are less than half the population, Thompson noted. And new voters, many of whom may also be new Americans, don't have allegiances to incumbent Democrats.

Trump slammed the Number Four House Democrat during his campaign rally in Fargo, North Dakota on Wednesday night. "This is the beginning because the message that we sent the world tonight is that it's not OK to put donors before your community", Ms Ocasio-Cortez told her supporters.

There were no news cameras present when Elizabeth Holtzman did the unthinkable 46 years ago, beating Emanuel Celler in the Democratic primary for the congressional seat he held for a remarkable 50 years.
