Lyon County Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep says some 15 to 30 tanker cars derailed between 4:15 and 4:45 this (Fri.) morning south of Doon, and that they are leaking an unknown volume of crude oil into the flooded Rock River.

Crews are working to contain and clean up crude that spilled when an oil train derailed in northwestern Iowa. The river rose rapidly Wednesday after 5 to 7 inches (13 to 18 centimetres) of rain fell Wednesday and a further downpour on Thursday.

Reynolds was set to visit the derailment site Saturday afternoon as part of a tour of areas hit by recent flooding.

Thirty-three oil tanker cars derailed Friday just south of Doon in Lyon County, leaking oil into surrounding floodwaters from the swollen Little Rock River. Oil has leaked from 14 of the tankers, spilling into floodwaters and eventually in the rain-swollen Little Rock river. Williams said officials hoped to reach the cars Saturday.

Williams says oil will be removed from that containment site with equipment to separate the oil from the water.

Leah Vanderbrink, of Doon, Iowa, said, "Around a quarter to five this morning, our neighbor called and said that a train derailed and had derailed into one of our fields".

Maybe my sports expectations are too high for a Disney-owned company, and maybe the point of the show is to be just that, a show. Ayton boasts impressive physical tools, as his 7-foot-1 frame, 7-foot-6 wingspan and 9-foot-3 standing reach would indicate.

President Trump Says Melania's Controversial Jacket Directed at 'Fake News Media'
Over 2,300 children have been taken away from their parents at the Southern border since mid-May and placed into facilities. President Donald Trump said his wife's jacket "refers to the Fake News Media".

"They're working diligently to get that done", Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said after meeting local authorities involved in the clean-up.

A major part of that work includes building a temporary road parallel to the tracks to allow in cranes that can remove the derailed and partially submerged oil cars. The train was carrying crude from the oil sands of western Alberta to Stroud, Oklahoma. ConocoPhillips spokesman Daren Beaudo said each tanker can hold more than 25,000 gallons (20,817 imperial gallons) of oil.

The derailment also caused concern downstream, including as far south as Omaha, Nebraska, approximately 150 miles (240 km) from the derailment site.

Then an unrelated fire at an industrial site about a mile south of town took emergency crews away from the derailment. The Rock River joins the Big Sioux River before merging into the Missouri River at Sioux City.

Cities downstream from the spill are monitoring their water systems.

Metropolitan Utilities District, which provides the Omaha metro area's drinking water, said it was monitoring the spill.
