And Chelsea aren't the only club with an interest in the forward.

Maurizio Sarri is preparing a double raid on Inter Milan and wants to bring both midfielder Matias Vecino and coach Giovanni Martusciello to Chelsea, according to reports. We have seen many experienced players struggle to perform well in the Premier League and some might even recall Andriy Shevchenko struggling a bit during his time at Stamford Bridge.

We've got another Chelsea story from The Mirror and it is that Chelsea also want to sign Miralem Pjanic to strengthen their midfield next season.

Kalidou Koulibaly is confident Maurizio Sarri will be a success at Chelsea and believes the former Napoli coach would "change" the style of football at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri though remains a big fan of Mertens who he converted from a winger to a very successful striker at Napoli who consistently ended up as one of the top goalscorers in the Serie A.

Set to celebrate a move to Chelsea?

The 59-year-old is widely expected to take over from Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge imminently, with the Blues now trying to negotiate compensation packages for both managers.

The Blues are in a spot of bother over the future of Willian, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

That's where he plays for Belgium, on the opposite flank to Eden Hazard. The 22-year-old performed admirably but succumbed to errors in crunch games which proved to be Chelsea's weak link throughout the season.

With his £24.5 million release clause expiring, it is uncertain how much it will cost to secure his services.
