It was a day of cricket that will go down in the history books, as England batsmen set the world record for scoring the highest ever total in One-Day Internationals. Bairstow and Hales struck 139 and 147 respectively, both taking only 92 balls to do so.

Chasing a third straight win to clinch the five-match series with two games to spare, Eoin Morgan's side made a rapid start after being inserted, Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy sharing 159 for the first wicket in 19.3 overs.

3 - Century-plus partnerships in the England innings (Roy-Bairstow, Bairstow-Hales and Hales-Morgan).

Bairstow, on 30, skyed a drive off Tye but Marcus Stoinis failed to hold an extremely tough chance as he ran back from mid-on.

England have not played an ODI in Durham since 2015 but their recent record in the north-east is good having won five of their last six completed matches there.

Bairstow plays a shot during the one-day global on Tuesday.

Australia captain Tim Paine maintains his beleaguered side can prevent a series whitewash against England despite their Trent Bridge traumas.

Australia could bring in off-spinner Nathan Lyon to add some experience to their attack although his one-day record is unimpressive. "It's a case of following and watching the ball". Despite losing Bairstow, heaving down the throat of deep midwicket, and Jos Buttler, deceived by a slower ball, Morgan thrashed a 21-ball half-century.

Hales exited to a smart catch from Agar off Richardson who then found himself on a hat-trick when Eoin Morgan picked out Paine following a quickfire 67.

Enroute to the all-time highest ODI total of 481 runs, England saw three partnerships of over 100 runs. Over the past four years, England team not only came over their embarrassing ODI World Cup performance but also managed to become an elite ODI team. The visitors will need to reverse history as only twice have teams breached the 400-run mark whilst batting second in ODIs. The top three are a huge asset to have. "Hope not. I am sure they are more skillful and better bowlers in one of most powerful nations in cricket".
