Merkel's migration policy targeted

Seehofer heads the Bavaria-only Christian Social Union, the sister party to Merkel's Christian Democratic Union.

The facts: Here's what Mr. Trump got right: Angela Merkel's coalition is fragile, and may soon unravel due to her immigration policies.

The chancellor made clear that she supported minister's Seehofer's suggestion to come up with a "migration master plan" but stressed that she opposes "unilateral" migration actions, such as turning back people at Germany's border.

Keen not to increase burdens on German taxpayers, Merkel has indicated she would prefer a euro zone budget in the "tens of billions" rather than Macron's idea of hundreds of billions of euros for investments.

The two countries agreed to build a genuine European border police force and establish a European Asylum Office that harmonizes asylum practice.

"This is the moment of truth for the Franco-German relationship, the hour of reckoning for the future of the euro zone", Le Maire told BMF television.

Italy and France have also become involved in the migrant debate, with Italy's interior minister Matteo Salvini, who is the deputy Prime Minister of the country, refusing to accept new refugee boats and calling for asylum seekers to be equally distributed across the European Union, rather than being hosted by the first country they land in. Most populists, most parties that are hostile to migrants are also hostile to the EU. And the issue has been inflamed recently by the rape and murder of a 14-year-old German girl that authorities believe was carried out by an Iraqi asylum seeker.

The president pinned Germany's rising crime rate on the country's failed immigration policies, calling it a mistake for the EU to admit millions of people who have "strongly and violently" changed the European culture.

NELSON: At her own news conference, Merkel said she agrees the asylum process needs to be streamlined.

England-Tunisia live stream online, TV time
And as the game looked to be petering out as a draw, Kane scored in injury-time from a corner to give England all three points. England had started brightly in a blur of passing and movement and could have been two goals up inside the first four minutes.

Trump "Space Force" wants American "dominance" in space
The president said the force would be "separate but equal" to the US Air Force, adding that the move represents a "big statement". The Air Force today oversees about 90 percent of the military's space funding, programs and personnel .

Trump announces tariffs targeting Chinese goods
Trump released a statement on the new tariffs, calling them a retaliation against Chinese intellectual property graft. The White House said it would consult on tariffs on the other $16bn of products, and would apply these later.

The CSU, anxious about losing votes to a new right-wing party in an October regional election, wants a ban on admitting asylum seekers into Germany who have already registered in another European Union country.

"In essence, that is a scandal", he said, promising to reverse the practice immediately.

The CSU fears that without a tougher migration policy, the far-right, anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) party "will become stronger in Bavaria at the expense of the CSU", says Jürgen Falter, a political scientist and expert on Germany's far right. Instead, she wants to find a common European solution at the EU summit in Brussels.

If Merkel can't reach a comprehensive solution with European Union countries in the next two weeks, the situation could quickly escalate, experts warn, possibly leading to a collapse of her coalition. The nation's interior minister has suggested denying individuals who have previously applied for asylum or registered as asylum-seekers in other European countries.

France's President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrive for a family photo after a meeting in the guest house of the German government in Meseberg north of Berlin, Germany, Tuesday, June 19, 2018.

She said yesterday that she supports 62 of his 63 points.

Merkel welcomed compromise in the dispute, which has threatened to destabilise a coalition cobbled together just three months ago, and said her Christian Democrat (CDU) party would decide how to proceed after the two-week deadline elapsed.

That would be "the end of the government and the alliance between CDU and CSU", an unnamed CDU source told Bild.
