Competitive games like Fortnite benefit greatly from players being able to talk to each other.

The leak was first reported by Variety, which cited a tweet from Simon Aarons, a data miner who saw the release date on Nintendo's eShop. "Cross-play and cross progression on Switch work with Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile", the company confirmed. Unlike PUBG however, Fortnite Battle Royale is completely free.

That leaves you with a single option: creating a brand new Epic Games account for Nintendo Switch, and leaving all of your PS4 progress behind you whenever you want to take it on the go. Participants will include the likes of National Basketball Association players Paul George, Andre Drummond, Kenneth Faried, Terrence Ross and Reggie Jackson, UFC fighters Sean O'Malley, Demetrious Johnson and Tyron Woodley, Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen and a slew of other celebrities and professional gamers. You can see the full list of competitors on Fortnite's website.

However, it appears that this announcement has not wavered Sony in their hard-line position against supporting cross-play with other consoles as they have blocked PS4 Fortnite players from playing with those on the Switch.

Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime said the game would incorporate its battle royale mode and would be available at 1 p.m. EST today as a free download. Provided Sony is responsible, it's effectively dictating where you're allowed to play using your main account (assuming the iPhone version won't cut it), not just your choice of device.

In the United States, the Fortnite addiction is equally as bad with many parents trying to figure out how to keep their kids away from the battle royale. Other items of note are that the game will of course support add-on content, with V-Bucks and the Wingman Starter Pack being prominently listed.
