The two countries will also hold a dialogue of their defence and Home ministers and have set a target of $100 billion in trade by the year 2020.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Qingdao on Saturday on a two-day visit primarily to attend the annual summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) which is likely to deliberate on several pressing global issues including future of Iran nuclear deal, the impact of USA sanctions on Russian Federation and situation in the Indo-Pacific region. This is the PM's second visit to China in the last 6 weeks. Xi said China will encourage Indian companies to register in China for exports.

The two leaders reviewed the full range of bilateral ties, especially ways to boost economic and cultural links between the two countries.

Diplomats said the summit is also likely to explore ways to deepen cooperation among the SCO member countries in dealing with threats of terrorism, extremism, and radicalisation besides delving into issues relating to trade, investment, and connectivity.

However, there is no official word on whether there will be any interaction between Modi and Pakistan President Hussain, who is scheduled to attend the meeting in China.

Modi and Xi were also expected to discuss economic relations between the two countries, NDTV reported.

Describing the almost hour-long meeting as "substantial" and "forward looking", foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale said both leaders made a very positive assessment of developments since they last met in the central city of Wuhan during April 28-29.

"It was a very substantive meeting". They also agreed - as decided during their first informal summit at Wuhan in April - to maintain strategic communications through various channels, including telephone calls and frequent meetings on the sidelines of multilateral events.

The two leaders also deliberated on initiating a joint project in Afghanistan which will be in the sphere of capacity building. On Indian side, it will be headed by EAM & on Chinese side, it'll be headed by state council & foreign minister Wang Yi. "One of the outcomes of today's meeting is that we have agreed we will move forward in identifying a specific project initially in the area of capacity building", Gokhale said. "Our talks will add further vigor to the India-China friendship".

China is willing to work with India to take the Wuhan meeting as a "new starting point" to continuously enhance political mutual trust and engage in mutually beneficial cooperation across the board, to push forward China-India relations in a better, faster and steadier manner, Mr. Xi was quoted as saying by China's Xinhua news agency.
