In the 18th century, guards from the Royal palaces assembled daily on Horse Guards to "troop the colours", and in 1748 it was announced the parade would also mark the Sovereign's official birthday.

Prince Charles is now Colonel of the Welsh Guards, Prince William is Colonel of the Irish Guards, and Princess Anne is Colonel of the Blues and Royals.

The 92-year-old queen, whose real birthday is April 21, seemed vigorous as she keenly observed the event.

The Duchess, wearing a pink Caroline Herrera ensemble with a matching hat by Philip Treacy, carried out her role with the poise and grace we've already come to expect from the former actress and humanitarian.

Meghan was, of course, accompanied by her husband Prince Harry and while her outfit was very classy and she made sure to wear the obligatory hat, she also showed off her shoulders when all of the other women there had long-sleeved ensembles on.

Following this year's Trooping of the Colour, Meghan will join the Queen herself for an official joint outing in Cheshire on June 14.

Whittaker Makes the Mark; Romero Does Not
He jokingly responded that it's a "long flight" from his home in Australia and added, "I'm fighting somebody". Earlier in the week, Whittaker was asked whether he would take the fight if Romero missed weight again.

No agreement yet between US, China on ZTE: Trump aide
While it did fire the four employees, the company admitted to making false statements about the others, handing out full bonuses. That was a potential death blow to ZTE, which relies on USA technology for an estimated 25 to 30 percent of its components.

Canberra golfer Matt Millar has missed out on a spot at the US Open after finishing two-over par at Sectional Qualifying. The US Open will be Fox's fourth major appearance, having previously played at the British Open and US PGA Championship.

And now, even as the newly-minted Duchess of Sussex, Markle is bending the boundaries with her sartorial choices.

People reports that Markle, joined by hubby Prince Harry, took her place with Prince William & Kate Middleton and their children, minus Prince Louis; Prince Philip; Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall; and the Queen herself. As well, if the Queen can't guide her, then expect to see the guiding hand of a lady-in-waiting who acts as a female regal aide on such duties.

The Queen rode by herself in an open carriage.

In Cheshire, they'll undertake classic royal duties: opening a bridge, officially cutting a ribbon at a cultural centre that's actually been going since a year ago, and finally, a lunch at the Chester Town Hall.

The guardsman said his family, including his mother, father and sister, who are "really, really proud" of him, will be there to watch him take part.

The younger royals lined up in front of the adults to enjoy the fly-past of modern and historic aircraft, with Prince George and Princess Charlotte standing with their parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
