"The launch vehicle is expendable", said Martin Halliwell, chief technical officer for SES. SpaceX may try to recover the Falcon 9 fairings at sea, which make up the rocket's nose cone, where the payload is encased. Instead, the satellite will have an electric drive that uses xenon gas pulses to slowly circulate its orbit around the equator for a period of months.

Space X will not be trying to land the Falcon 9 booster for the second time. So we're going really high.

SES-12 eventually will be positioned at 95 degrees east longitude, co-located with the SES-8 relay station - the first SES satellite launched by SpaceX.

The communications satellite SES-12, weighing near about 5.4-ton is created to provide data, video, and other services reinforcing communications across the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific area. The company provides satellite communications services to broadcasters, content and internet service providers, mobile and fixed network operators, governments and institutions. "And satellite is one of the (ways) - and sometimes the only way - to those markets". "Ironically, we need to take it apart to confirm it does not need to be taken apart".
