Greitens announced Tuesday he would resign as governor on Friday.

"Today I am announcing that I will resign as governor of Missouri effective Friday, June 1, at 5 p.m.

I can not allow those forces to continue to cause pain and difficulty to the people that I love", the governor said.

Greitens's mistress, who has not been publicly identified, claimed that he took a photo of her partially nude, bound and blindfolded, without her permission, and threatened to release the photo if the affair became public.

Prior to taking office, Greitens had pledged to root out "corrupt career politicians", but his brief, 17-month tenure was plagued by scandal.

That accusation was at the center of a now scuttled felony invasion of privacy case, though a special prosecutor continues to investigate the matter. Those charges stem from his alleged use of a donor list from a charity he founded, The Mission Continues, to benefit his campaign. But, she says, details won't be released until Wednesday (5/30). But his departure was days in the making, as Greitens wrestled with mounting legal bills and the emotional pressures of defending against possible impeachment and a criminal trial.

State lawmakers had convened in a special session to hear evidence about Greitens in a process that could have led to his impeachment.

"It's clear for the forces that oppose us, there's no end in sight", he said. The charge was dismissed during jury selection, but a special prosecutor was considering whether to refile charges.

Yankees fans booed the hell out of Rudy Giuliani on his birthday
Giuliani got the heaviest boos Yankee Stadium has heard since Giancarlo Stanton's most recent. strikeout (* rimshot *). In 1997, he became the first Republican since 1941 to win a second term as New York City Mayor.

"The politics of this entire circus around Governor Greitens has always been concerning", he said.

"The state's economic growth lags the U.S. Also there are going to be phased in income tax cuts so it may be more hard to balance the budget", Cure said.

He said the criminal case was politically motivated and called St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, a Democrat, a "reckless liberal prosecutor". Defense attorneys for Greitens contacted her office over the weekend to strike a deal. The probe came after media reports suggested Greiten's campaign had obtained and used a charity donor list in 2015 as it ramped up fundraising for his gubernatorial bid.

During her testimony to the House investigative committee, the woman said Greitens invited her to his home and offered to show her "how to do a proper pull-up".

Earlier Tuesday, a judge also ruled that a secretive pro-Greitens nonprofit group called A New Missouri must comply with a legislative subpoena for any documents or communications showing potential coordination between the organization, Greitens and his campaign committee.

"I think this is a great decision from the governor", said Sen.

A St. Louis grand jury indicted Greitens on February 22 on one felony count of invasion of privacy related to the alleged photo.

Roe also said it appeared likely that the House would vote to impeach Greitens, a step that would have prolonged his fight for several more months until a trial could be held on whether to remove him from office.
