Alberto could drench the Tennessee Valley, cause wind damage

An elevated observing station located about 15 miles (25 km) south of Apalachicola, Florida, has recently reported sustained winds of 46 mph (74 km/h). The combination of Storm Surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters mov ing inland.

Rain chances will remain intact through Memorial Day as some outer bands from Alberto could stream in through the region.

AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski stressed that the subtropical storm classification is only in reference to the fact that Alberto is not considered a pure tropical system.

In Cuba, flooding damaged an oil refinery and caused crude oil to spill into Cienfuegos Bay as the remnants of Alberto continued to drench the island in heavy rain.
