"I sincerely admit my guilt and regret my crime".

The China Central Television and Xinhua reported on Tuesday that the former official had pleaded guilty and agreed with the verdict.

The former party chief of Chongqing City and ex-Politburo member stood trial for accepting bribes.

Sun, 54, was the youngest member of the ruling communist party's 25-member politburo and was a rising star in the party.

China's parliament also removed the two-term limit for the president paving the way for Xi to continue in power for life.

Xi would have had to give up the presidency after the end of his second term in 2023, but last year's decision Xi can now have a lifetime to push his vision of a rejuvenated China as a global powerhouse with a "world-class" military.
