The French foreign Ministry announced on this occasion a special statement which said: "France strongly disagree with the comments of the President of trump on Paris attacks that took place on 13 November 2015, and it requires respect for the memory of the victims of these events".

In a speech to the National Rifle Association (NRA) in Dallas, Texas, yesterday in which he spoke out in favour of liberal gun laws, the United States president sarcastically questioned whether vans, trucks and cars, which have been used as weapons by terrorists, should also be banned before turning to knives.

Trump said Friday, in a speech before members of the National Rifle Association, that the situation in Paris would have ended differently if some of the people who suffered the attacks were armed.

Trump has been lambasted by Londoners for his comments on knife crime.

Last year, Trump criticised London Mayor Sadiq Khan, hours after a deadly terrorist attack, based on a misinterpretation of an outdated tweet.

"Yes that's right, they don't have guns, they have knives".

During the NRA speech, Trump also took a swipe at the UK's tight gun control, against the backdrop of its soaring knife crime, and painted a nightmarish scene of an unidentified hospital in the country's capital.

The surgeon who made the "war zone" remark, Dr. Martin Griffiths or Royal London Hospital, didn't endorse Trump's comments, either. A trauma specialist from the Royal London hospital hit back by pointing out that people are twice as likely to die from gunshot wounds as knife injuries.

The director of London's major trauma system said "to suggest guns are part of the solution [to combat knife crime] is ridiculous".

And though he didn't mention any specific London hospitals by name, Trump did say that in some hospitals it's like a "war zone" from all of the knife attacks.
