Arizona governor declares state of emergency in response to Tinder Fire

The Tinder Fire was discovered Friday morning and is burning northeast of Strawberry, about nine miles east of Clint's Well.

Coconino County authorities said an estimated 600 people were evacuated from about 1,000 homes in the area by Sunday night.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office has ordered evacuations for communities affected by the fire that are north, east, and west of Hwy 87.

The cause of the wildfire is unknown. The wildfire is zero-percent contained. This declaration makes available additional state resources for response efforts. The fire is over 11-thousand 400-acres burned near the C.C. Cragin ReservioR.

The Superstition Fire and Medical District also tweeted that it was sending a four-person crew to the fire for assistance.

Meanwhile, State Route 87 was closed early Sunday afternoon 30 miles south of Winslow, but not due to the Tinder Fire - ADOT is blaming a "brush fire".

Blue Ridge Area Residents are encouraged to call the County's Call Center, 928-679-8393 with evacuation questions. Residents say they've been anxious about a fire of this magnitude for years. An evacuation site was set up at a Navajo casino resort, after being moved from a junior high school because of smoke.

County health officials were also encouraging individuals to take precautions and protect thmselves from the effects of wildfire smoke.
